Beacon Of Hope

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Conversion of existing masonry office tower to affordable housing for veterans in the heart of Kensington

Three big ideas:

Adaptive Reuse,
Affordable Housing,
Transit Oriented

Beacon of Hope is a mixed-use development project attending to the critical housing needs of the Kensington community, providing community-based health and social services, implementing workforce development, and establishing an anchor institution in the neighborhood.  The project will renovate an existing masonry office tower adjacent to SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line into affordable housing for veterans.  The all-electric renovation will prioritize energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality to help residents improve their health and save on utility bills.

The building will be topped with a beacon that both encloses the stairs and elevators and serves as a symbol of hope and connection between Kensington and the rest of Philadelphia – a reminder of the power of hope and the capacity for positive change.

Construction will commence in early 2025!
