Philly Twin Kitchen Reno

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Major surgery on a twin kitchen - pulled apart and then put back together

Three big ideas:

Green Materials,
Family Kitchen

Prior to the renovation, a local architectural writer had written about the home’s kitchen as “one of the worst” she’d ever seen. Maybe it was the wall that blocked the refrigerator from opening or the lack of daylight that really doomed the space. After a major overhaul, Philadelphia Magazine called the new space “an eco-modern kitchen you will covet”.

Highlights include: a pantry/appliance garage hidden by dramatic sliding doors with slate insets that were recycled from classroom chalkboards from a school being remodeled; transom windows below upper cabinets provide natural light directly on counter workspace; Exposed wooden floor joists in the ceiling provide warmth to the space
