Master plan for a native plant center nestled in an old growth New England forest

Three big ideas:

Garden In The Woods
Educational Landscape
Low Energy Greenhouse

Set among 45 acres near Boston, the Native Plant Trust’s Garden in the Woods is a living museum containing 1,500 species of native New England plants displayed in a naturalistic and magical settings. In support of a comprehensive Master Plan led by Andropogon Associates, Re:Vision developed design concepts for a campus of buildings, including a Visitor Center, Education Center, and Seed Vault / Greenhouse.
With this kind of site, the challenge is to have buildings enhance rather than compete with main attraction—the landscape. At Garden in the Woods, the buildings are designed to open to the landscape and create a gateway rather than a final destination. Even when visitors are indoors, a biophilic response is evoked through thoughtful indoor-outdoor connections. Wide overhangs and gracious terraces further encourage outdoor gatherings and programming.
