High speed renovation for an alternative school

Three big ideas:

Alternative Education,
Daylight and Views,
Strategic Color

When The Lincoln Center for Family and Youth (TLC), an alternative education school, acquired their new Audubon building they knew it would require a full interior refresh – but as a non-profit organization their financial priorities are on their mission. Additionally, the design and construction needed to occur inside of a 6 month schedule so the school could re-open for the next school year. Re:Vision was selected as architect given our extensive non-profit experience and our collaborative nature – and brought the project in on-budget and on-schedule.

A radical departure from the previous school’s dark classrooms with limited views outside, the new spaces provide daylight and views from all areas thanks to space planning that unlocked the benefit of the building’s continuous ribbon windows. The new classrooms came to life with cost effective pops of color though sustainably sourced paint, carpet, and furniture.

The main entrance lobby features a custom designed carpet tile pattern.
Three dimensional wall panels and pendant lights add an air of playful sophistication to the entrance.
The open learning environment is characterized by expansive views across classrooms and strategic pops of color in the furniture and finishes.
Individual classrooms have plentiful daylight and views to encourage active learning.
With open plan classrooms, existing furniture was catalogued and utilized to create boundaries of spaces.
Amidst the classrooms recreation spaces provide needed outlets for energetic students.
Music is utilized for learning, self expression, and therapy.
A fitness center for students and staff features weight training, yoga, and cardiovascular equipment.
