As part of 2021’s Design Philadelpha, Drew and Kristen provided their insights in a pecha kucha format in response to the prompt, “What’s next for Philadelphia?” They envisioned a bright future for Philadelphia framed around the imperatives of the Living Building Challenge:
We treat water as the precious resource that it is.
Our city generates as much energy as we use, and some extra to share.
We prioritize people and their movement.
Our food is local and our communities are healthy.
We build for resilience. We build for access by all, regardless of income or mobility. We build to inspire.
We all share equally in the benefit of the work we do, the resources we generate, the opportunities we create.
Our future is living, it is challenging, it is necessary. Reshaping our built environment around the 20 imperatives of the Living Building Challenge will help transform us to a city that is socially just, culturally rich, and ecologically restorative.
We’re going to need sunglasses.
